PARENT LETTER

Welcome to Sixth Grade at Emma Sansom Middle School. I hope that you are excited about this new school year. However, I understand that as much as you want to express excitement to your child your true feelings are more of apprehension and anxiety mixed with a little sadness. I hope that over the next few days you will experience a great sense of relief as you watch your child begin this transition to experience a new independence that testifies to the love and character that you have invested in them. During the next 10 months I would like to join in a partnership with you of equipping your child for a successful life. It will require team work and a great transfer of responsibility from you to your child. Let me assure you that the time invested in your child’s life during this critical year will yield GREAT reward.

I am Mrs. Robinson, your child’s sixth grade math teacher. This is my sixteenth year to teach math at Emma Sansom. According to the Alabama State definition, I am a highly qualified teacher.

As you are very aware, school has experienced much change since you and I were in middle school. The standards that your child are expected to achieve are exceptional. However, you have an exceptional child. It is my desire to equip you, the parent, with every resource available to make your active role in supporting your child’s learning a reality. As much as I would love to spend daily one to one tutoring time with each child, that is an unrealistic expectation. Please consider that I teach over 150 children in 6 hours. You, on the other hand, have the opportunity to work individually with your child daily. What an incredible opportunity you have to spend quality time together. I ask you to make this a priority. Invest time now checking your child’s class work and homework. Not only will they successfully complete sixth grade math but they will internalize your priority of school work into their spirit.

Here is where we begin:
  • Read the Mathematics Student Letter paying very close attention to the supplies needed and the classroom rules.

  • Keep the Student Letter, Parent Letter, Curriculum Guide and Grading Procedures Paper. A Resource Guide will be made available on the class website - robinsonmath6.wikispaces.com

  • Complete, Sign and Return the Student/Parent/Teacher Agreement.

  • Mark your calendar and look for a progress report the 5th week of each 9 weeks. This report must be signed and returned. Report cards are sent home every 9 weeks. If your child makes a D or F in math on their progress report or report card, please contact me IMMEDIATELY!!

Communication is Key to a Successful Year
I’M ASKING EACH PARENT TO EMAIL ME AND IDENTIFY YOUR STUDENT BY FULL NAME. This will allow me to quickly create an email database for the class.
    • I check my email daily. This is the best method for quick communication.

  • Set up a conference time between 12:00 – 12:30
    • School # 546-4992 / ask for Mrs. E. Stephens
